I started Wooj to break that pattern: beautiful, useful lighting, designed and 3D printed from recycled plastic in our Brooklyn studio, priced so you can actually live with it.
A lamp a robot printed?
Yes. Printed from recycled PLA and PETG, then assembled and shipped from our own studio in Brooklyn.
“Bioplastic” can mean almost anything. So here’s exactly what’s in our printers.
The ridges you can feel on every shade are the layers of the print — we don’t sand away the evidence.
Corn-based, uses about 65% less energy to make than virgin plastic. Domestically recycled PLA is basically impossible to source, and we have some. This is a big deal.
Recyclable again after its life as a lamp.
Everything is printed to order in Brooklyn, so nothing is made that nobody wants.
It started with a broken Akari lamp.
Stuck at home in online design school during lockdown (which, let’s be honest, wasn’t great), Sean designed a new shade for the broken base. Fifty-some iterations later, the first Wavy Lamp went up on Instagram on a whim, and pretty soon a small apartment couldn’t keep up with demand. Five years, fifty products, and two studios later, it’s still one of our bestsellers.

I broke an Akari lamp I loved and printed a new shade for it, and somehow that became my whole life. One printer became a wall of them, and a small team of us now designs, assembles, and ships everything from our studio in Brooklyn.
The lamps I love best, the Noguchi lanterns, the Louis Poulsen pendants, are priced like sculpture. Ours never will be.
