How a Torn Lampshade Started a Design Company
From a broken lamp to 50,000 sold. Here’s how our flagship product came to be.
Shop the Wavy LampIt started with a broken Akari lamp during COVID lockdown – Our founder was stuck at home during online design school (which, let's be honest, wasn't great) and decided to design a new shade for the broken base.
50+ iterations later, the first Wavy Lamp was born – What started as a quarantine project became proof that 3D printing could create beautiful, unique lighting.
5 friends bought the first batch – Posted on Instagram on a whim, and people we knew actually wanted one.
Then strangers started ordering – Turns out people beyond our circle were interested too, and suddenly a small apartment couldn't keep up with demand.
Now we've made over 50,000 lamps – the Wavy Lamp remains one of our bestsellers even 5 years, 50 products, and 2 studios later.

Gorgeous light very upscale and so soft and moody. Have plenty of light with two on a dinner table for no other lights to be on. I left mine on for several days and it lasted a very long time.

I got the mini wavy lamp last week and absolutely love it. The design is very intentional and well made. I also love that this one is cordless so that it can follow me around my apartment ;)
My old house is great on charm and lacking on plug-ins, so the cordless is a godsend. I love this warm light so much. Thank you!
Definitely a nice accent piece for any living room or bedroom. The bulb inside is decently bright but it will not light up an entire space. I paired mine with a Phillips hue smart bulb so I could turn it on and off over WiFi through an app. I will probably come back for another lamp or sconce.
