The Drum collection in collaboration with Christopher Merchant was inspired by images captured by Bernd and Hilla Becher of revolutionary technology, as well as highly ordered natural formations – mushroom gills, flower petals, and refracted light. Christopher Merchant sought to combine these inspirations in a classic lamp profile while expressing the unique character and capabilities of 3D printing, a technological revolution in itself.

Collection Details

MORE THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS

In both natural and technological influences, there is a superstructure or macro form (mushroom cap + stem/outer shape of water tower) and layered sub-structures (mushroom gills/water tower structure). The Drum collection carries these over in lamp form – the superstructure is the cylindrical lamp shade and base, and the radial, fluted lines defining the inner and outer cylinders are the substructures which define the whole.
