The idea for the Pill Sconce came from a custom pendant made for downtown Manhattan wine bar Lai Rai. In making this one off fixture, we made the layer lines extra thick, treating them as a deliberate design feature rather than an artifact of 3D printing to hide. The Pill Sconce takes this construction and adapts it to a wall fixture, using the form's curvature and steps to make the individual layers visible from every angle. Printed products often try to look like they weren't printed. The Pill Sconce does the opposite, drawing attention to a production capability we built specifically to make this piece possible.

This a plug-in style for easy install, as well as seamless movement between rooms or homes!

Layers of this height don't exist in a printer's default settings, so this required some design engineering. By swapping out larger nozzles and making custom modifications to our slicer, we allowed for a design that goes beyond the printer's intended operating range. That created a new problem: light leaking out the open front of the fixture. We solved it with a press-fit cap, with no visible hardware, carrying the same offset line pattern as the body and printed on the same modified process so it reads as part of the piece.

A note from Sean

I print your lamp after you order it.

It starts as a spool of recycled filament in our Greenpoint studio, gets printed the week you buy it, and ships from here. No warehouse, no inventory.

The design has a great ethereal vibe that really lights up a space, giving it a dreamy, airy feel.

It’s by far the most commented-on piece in my home and becomes a topic of conversation when a new guest spots it.
